Testing & Quality Assurance

When considering a website design and development project, there are some factors to consider. At Portalnet, we stress user experience (UX), user interface (UI), manageability, marketing relevance, quality content, and web content management systems (CMS). Another factor that is essential in any web development project is the Quality Assurance process.

Quality Assurance (QA) is the maintenance of a desired level of quality in a service or project by paying attention to every aspect of the delivery or production processes. In web development, QA involves three areas of testing:

  • Requirements testing
  • Design testing
  • Functionality testing

Requirements testing involves the QA tester to compile a list of requirements after the client has approved the design documents. Using tools such as InVision, the designer can provide comprehensive layouts and wireframes of the website to let the QA test later against the requirements list. This step is essential to ensure that nothing from the scope gets missed before the development team takes over and begins coding the website.

In the Design testing stage, the look and feel of the website are corrected and fine-tuned based on the design requirements. The design also gets tested on all browsers, as well as all platforms, from desktop to smartphones and tablets.

In the final stage of the QA testing, the functionality of the website gets attended. Checking for functionality involves ensuring that every link, button, and any other features on the site work correctly across multiple browsers and platform devices. Browsers include Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Bing, and Internet Explorer. Device platforms include desktop PC, smartphones, and tablets.
